As we wave goodbye to 2018 and look on to 2019 and beyond, we would like to take the opportunity to reflect on some of the brilliant innovations, smart construction materials and super projects that we brought you. It’s been a pleasure sharing these discoveries with you and we can’t wait to see what the new year has to bring that we’ll be able to share with you.
But, for now, this is Bobtrade’s 2018 roundup!
In sustainability news we inundated you with updates on alternative construction materials and power sources.
We’re beginning to experiment with infrastructure builtusingsmog-eating materials– a nano-coating that not only self-cleans, but purifies thesurrounding air as well.It also defiesthe ‘you are what you eat’ principle – every option that’s been explored so far has been beautifully designed, and has broughtup the looksaverage of the surrounding areaas well.
One of the creators of this technology, Elegant Embellishments,has equated that just one building can negate the effects of up to about 1,000 cars per day.
This innovation is completely incredible. Imagine the positive effect on our environment if more organisations took up this technology.
There are a number of different types of bioplasticmade from properties found in wood, starch and vegetable fats. They all come from renewable sources which means aside from the lack of fossil fuels, increased farming for production means that we are introducing more Co2 eating plants to our landscape.
You'd be surprised about the places you can find bioplastics - even take away containers and the wrap used in florist's have been made with bioplastics for years!
The Brighton Waste House is a practical investigation into the construction of a modern, low energy, permanent structure using 85% “waste” material.Started in 2012, it was an experiment, but it was also an exercise in the power of recycling and sustainable construction. Giving value back to the things we dispose of. Giving back their worth. Which we think is pretty beautiful.
Does this mean we can start eliminating the idea of waste from our vocabulary when it comes to construction? We hope so!
Construction is known as an industry that is always moving forward and taking on challenges no matter how crazy they might seem! This need for constant change an innovation makes our creativity boundless.
Kinetic buildings. The name alone is enough to conjure up images of some science fiction movie -but this creative innovation is already here. We’re talking about buildings that move, shape-shift and open and close like transformers.
In the present day, the idea of moving architecture has been refreshed, thanks to advances in mechanics, technology, and robotics.
From Rossis' House to the Al Bahr Tower, kinetic buildings all over the world inspire excitement and creativity.
Creativity doesn't just mean the aesthetic qualities of construction. What about the creativity and innovation that brought us technology which changed the face of construction altogether?
Welding is one of those innovations.
The history of welding goes back to the Bronze Age! As we discovered new ways of utilising metal we also needed to find new ways of working with it. Welding was an incredible innovation that changed the face of construction as we know it.
The ginormous Guardian GT. Sporting two seven-foot arms, and with the ability to bench press 1,000 Lbs of radioactive waste, this robotic genius is the latest creation of technology company Sarcos. The Guardian is all about making construction sites safer by safeguarding humans from hazardous environments and tasks.
The Guardian GT looks like the kind of construction companion you wouldn't want to be left alone on a building site with- but its dexterity is what’ll leave you trusting this robot with your entire business plan!
Complex tasks that run the risk of causing issues like vibration white finger and carpal tunnel could be a thing of the past with technology like the GT. Not to mention we would no longer rely on people going in to dangerous areas to retrieve parts in cases of building collapse because the Guardian can be controlled remotely. Brilliant!
Because it’s actually an incredibly cost effective and efficient method of space travel. If the research is properly implemented we could have a low cost, safe method of space transportation by the year 2035, according to one report.
This is a perfect example of the ways in which construction sites will develop and change in the future. Maybe we start with elevators in to space, but then what next? Maybe a sky scraper on mars!
To achieve these feats we will need improved efficiency and and un-tethered creativity. The construction industry will continue to develop and change as the years go on, are you ready for the challenges of 2019?
