From the skyline to the pavements we walk everyday, London is in a constant state of flux, growth and development. It’s an exciting time. Next in line is the famous Old Kent Road!

The Old Kent Road regeneration was finally given the go ahead in March of this year. This could mean a huge boost to the local economy and the creation of thousands of jobs.

The project is going to cost around £600m!

This is a mixed use scheme, meaning it will be a combination of residential and commercial construction. This will give the area a much needed new lease of life.

The project is located around 520 Old Kent Road. The Cantium Retail Park will absorb an already existing retail park in the area. Centred around a public square, the buildings which make up the project will range from 3 - 48 storeys creating intricate levels across the skyline.

It is believed work will take 6 years to be completed.

It’s not all tower blocks and housing, developers have also taken into account the importance of biophilia on our city.

Biophilia is the theory that exposure to plants and greenery has a positive impact on the mental and physical health of city residents. Not only this but there has been much research on the ability of plants to clean the air that surrounds them by eating the Co2. With this in mind, developers have also planned a linear, tree lined park to be a part of the retail park.

The aim according to Southwark council is to create a new town centre destination for the people of Southwark. This is all part of an overall plan known as the Old Kent Road Action Plan.

Another exciting development to one of the greatest cities on earth, we can’t wait to see it when it’s done.
