2019 is a big year for London’s developments. With the Battersea developments continuing on the Thames alongside the London mega-sewer update, there is so much to be excited about in the coming year.
One such exciting development is the Spire.
The Spire will rise from the now empty Hertsmere House in West India Quay. Close to Canary Wharf, the construction began in 2016. It is hoped the project will be completed by 2020 and is part of the list of over 15 skyscrapers set to change the face of London’s skyline.
You might be thinking: Another tower in London? What’s so special about that? Well, upon its completion next year, the Spire will be one of Europe’s tallest residential tower.
The Spire will be home to over 850 apartments with the total cost of construction being upwards of £800m.
"The Spire will be one of Europe's tallest residential towers."
What is the history of its location? What was Hertsmere house and why will it now be home to hundreds of Londoners?
Originally this location was the home of an office block which later went on to be developed in to a 75 storey residential tower. Plans were eventually approved to take the residential aspirations for this location to the next level and that’s how we find ourselves with the impressive Spire ready to take on the London skyline!
